Mindset and perspective plays a critical role in every aspect of life.

It is important to be positive and confident. Easier said than done, but there are ways to develop a mindset that will set the foundation for business success.

Remember your success will rarely succeed your level of personal development (read more here) so never stop learning and developing.

You are what you are because what had gone into your mind. You change what you are and where you are by changing what goes into your mind.

Do you really and truly believe in your business? Does your business solve problems for your customer? Will they be better off after doing business with you? The answer to all these questions will be yes when you provide massive value for your customers (read here) and become totally focused on your customer

In order to transfer any feeling, you have to have that feeling. It all begins with your mindset. As in every facet of life, it's our outlook that drives our reality.

That said, you have to believe in your business. How much conviction do you have in your business and your product? If you’re going to be convincing you have to be convinced yourself.

Mindset is so important because people are are convinced and persuaded by your belief. Applying fundamental principles to your business (click here) will give you the confidence and ability to deliver exactly what your customer wants along with the outcomes that you desire.

What is critical is your total conviction and complete belief that the product or service you sell is truly the best buy for the prospect. Believe in your product and company. Transfer that belief to the prospect and not only will you sell more – you will sell it more easily and those customers will get you other customers. This is the mindset for success in business.

Mindset Checklist

Remind yourself of the following 5 points to develop a mindset for business success. Focus on them and use them to develop a mindset that will help you strive forward.

1. Positive projection

In your mind you should honestly believe you are providing a valuable service and are ultimately helping the customer. Success will follow when you feel strongly about your business. The force of your convictions and the depth of your beliefs will be enough to persuade people. You can read all about positive projection and self promotion here.

2. Assumptive attitude

It will be helpful to assume and imagine great things. Assume that any potential customer swill be delighted to talk to you, after all, you will be helping them. Assume a lot to sell a lot. Assume you will get what you want. See the prospect signing the order. You should see in your own mind the transfer of your goods or services to him. In every step of the process you assume and see the desired end results.

Your business solves a problem or fills a need for the customer. So whether they know it or not, they need it. It will be helpful to clearly visualise, memorise, rehearse and drill exactly what you are going to say in the initial approach. You need to visualise the prospect’s response.

In your mind see them responding with a yes. Business is a visualisation procedure. Assume the prospect wants to buy because they probably do, assume that they are going to buy because they probably will. Make it easy for them to buy – that is your job. From hello to good bye assume they are going to buy from you.

3. Enthusiasm

If you are sold on your product or service then you are going to be enthusiastic. Can you be too enthusiastic? Well, for every sale you miss because you are too enthusiastic you will miss a hundred because you are not enthusiastic enough!

People buy the feeling and the idea that another person had about the product. They buy their belief. You were sold because they were sold. Enthusiasm sells.

Enthusiasm and passionate belief will work wonders for your business.

4. Caring

People don’t care how much you know – until they know how much you care. Sell on love, caring, sharing, and togetherness and the fact that the product contributes to all these things. You can use warm words when discussing your business like;

Rich

Loving

Good taste

Gracious

Comfort

Security

Investment

Caring

And many other positive words

Expect to sell everyone you call upon, not only to sell once, buy frequently with high orders. Give everyone a chance to buy by asking for the order. Sell more to those who can and should buy your product by realising not everyone can or should buy your product

5. The Subordinate Question

Ask and you shall receive – have you heard this before? The subordinate question is any question the answer to which, if positive, means the prospect has bought. The frame work of the question is important because prospects don’t want you to sell them anything;

"Do you see how this would ……."

"Are you interested in……."

"If you were ever going to start….x…….when do you think would be the best time to start?"

"Have you sold yourself or do I need to tell you more?"

Your main target is to serve your customer by selling your goods or services.

The depth of your belief is far more important than your oratorical eloquence and sales phraseology. Always go over and above for your client, Deliver more than you sell and that is the way to sell more in the future.

6. Emotion

People don’t buy for logical reasons, they buy for emotional reasons.

People do not buy facts or even benefits unless they can see those benefits translated to their own personal use. Logic makes people think but emotion that makes them act. Use emotion and logic (read here how buying is emotional).

Logic is aimed at and appeals to the eye, but emotion appears to the ear. Tell and demonstrate at the same time to greatly multiply the frequency of you sales; our feeling brain is ten times larger than our thinking brain. A little bit of imagination we can take your business a long way!

Have an absolute conviction that you need to find out what the prospect wants and help them get it. Take your profession and prospects seriously – but not yourself.

Conclusion

It is always important to think as a buyer and as a seller. The aim is to always be calm, confident, positive and reassuring. Working from a base of honesty and integrity are the most effective tools to calm any fears.

Poor self-image an fear of rejection are a huge stumbling block for many business owners and people in general. Improve your self-image and you will improve your business. Nobody on the face of the earth can make you feel inferior without your permission. Once you get your image right your business and your personal life will improve.

As business owners we should aim to be enthusiastic and interested in working with others to solve their problems. Building relationships and providing a valuable service, whether advice, info or opinion, will set you on the path to success and prosperity.
